The next potential challenger for former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been unveiled, as Dillian Whyte, originally slated to face Joshua on August 12, has been sidelined due to a doping test failure.
Derek Chisora, a fellow British boxer, had been rumored to be the replacement. However, 41-year-old division veteran Gerald Washington has now emerged as another strong contender.
Washington, the American pugilist, confirmed he's been approached for the match-up against the ex-champion.
"We gonna put in some good work. We’re waiting so see what’s going on. We set to fight Chisora [but] I know they gonna need somebody to step in and save the show, man. If they need us we right here, baby. We’re very excited to fight Chisora [but] something against AJ would be spectacular, man … They already reached out to me, man, so we gonna see," said Washington, as reported by Boxing Social.
To note, Chisora was initially set to face Washington in a preliminary match before the anticipated Joshua-White showdown.
