American interim WBA super middleweight champion Caleb Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) has revealed that he sent a contract offer to Puerto Rican contender Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) for a potential fight — but according to Berlanga, no such offer ever arrived.
“No, but we sent him a contract. We’ll know in a day or two. Stay tuned, but it’s probably not going to be him. He doesn’t want to fight me. If he’s a free agent and can fight anyone — well, here I am. So let’s go. I’ll whoop his ass,” Plant said.
Berlanga quickly fired back, firmly denying Plant’s claims and mocking his authority.
“You didn’t send me anything. You’re not the boss. You work for PBC. What are you talking about? I’m the one sending contracts — you’re the one accepting. I’ll send you a contract, you’ll fight me for $200,000, and I’ll make $30 million,” Berlanga replied.
Plant’s last fight took place in September, when he scored a ninth-round TKO over Trevor McCumby.
Berlanga last fought on March 15, stopping Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in the first round.
