Former world champion and analyst Paulie Malignaggi shared when he began to suspect American boxer Ryan Garcia of using performance-enhancing drugs.
"Ryan Garcia without doping isn't fast, isn't strong, isn't trained; he's not even a good boxer.
I probably started to suspect that Ryan was using drugs back during his fight against Romero Duno. I saw the knockout in the bout with Duno. I didn't say that this guy was definitely on something because you can't just say that outright.
But there was suddenly a burst of energy in Ryan Garcia's career. It happened abruptly; it didn't look like he was that strong. He had stoppages, but in the fight with Duno, where you hit a solid guy and barely graze the top of his head, one foot goes one way and the other goes the other, and he ends up on the canvas in the first round… I thought, 'This guy has never hit like that before,'" said Malignaggi.
Garcia and Duno faced off in 2019.
