The head of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), Rick Thompson, announced that Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) had withdrawn its request for permits and waivers necessary to stage the fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis.
“I believe it is in the public’s interest to know this, as they were promoting something they shouldn’t have. They probably evaluated the situation and realized the weight difference was too big,” said Thompson.
The likely reason is that Gervonta and Jake have too great a weight disparity. The commission was set to review changes regarding the maximum allowable difference between fighters, but one of the five commissioners was firmly against removing that rule.
The press conference for the fight, originally scheduled for September 18 at State Farm Arena, has been moved to September 22 in New York.
