Interim WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker spoke about how ready he is for a possible meeting with the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“As we know, Usyk is injured, right? Something happened, so he got a postponement from the WBO.
He’s an excellent champion and has achieved incredible results in boxing. We all know how he conquered the heavyweight division. But we — not only the fighters at the top of the rankings, but all heavyweight fighters — want to see more movement regarding the world titles. So, Usyk, come on, mate. We need some action.
Right now I’m just worrying about what I can control, and those who stand in front of me, and I’ll just fight fight by fight. There’s no point looking too far ahead, because you can get stuck doing that. If Usyk is available — great, I’ll smash his face. If not — I’ll deal with whoever is in front of me.
Right now I’m focused only on Fabio Wardley; he has all my attention and I’m looking forward to it,” Parker said.
Parker (36-3, 24 KO) will fight next on October 25. The interim WBA heavyweight title will be on the line in his bout with Fabio Wardley.
