Andy Lee, trainer of WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, has revealed that his fighter may enter the ring at the heaviest weight of his career in his upcoming showdown against Daniel Dubois. The fight for the IBF world heavyweight title is set for February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
"He’s going to be heavier—probably the heaviest he’s ever been—but it hasn’t affected his speed, hand speed, or mobility. I can feel his increased power on the pads—it was the right move for him.
I don’t believe that being lighter necessarily makes you faster. If you’re lighter, you get moved around more easily. When you carry more weight, you hold your position better, you’re sturdier, and you stand your ground more effectively. Clinching also becomes a strength advantage. This is a physical sport—the stronger you are, the better," said Lee.
The Parker vs. Dubois bout is scheduled for February 22.
