Pacheco Finds New Opponent After Mbilli Talks Collapse

American super middleweight Diego Pacheco (23-0, 18 KOs) has lined up a new opponent following the collapse of negotiations for a WBC-ordered bout with France’s Christian Mbilli (28-0, 23 KOs). According to The Ring, Pacheco and fellow American Trevor McCumby (28-1, 21 KOs) have reached an agreement to fight this summer.

Pacheco had previously withdrawn from talks to face Mbilli, a fight that would have positioned the winner as a mandatory challenger for the WBC world title—currently held by Mexican superstar Canelo Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs).

Pacheco is coming off a strong performance in January, where he defeated Steven Nelson via unanimous decision. McCumby, meanwhile, last stepped into the ring in September, when he suffered a ninth-round TKO loss to Caleb Plant.

The upcoming bout offers both fighters a chance to make a statement in the increasingly competitive 168-pound division.
