The founder and head of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya, announced the desired opponents for his client, interim WBC junior middleweight champion Virgil Ortiz (22-0, 21 KOs).
“Jermell Charlo or Errol Spence for Virgil Ortiz, before Premier Boxing Champions sinks for good,” wrote De La Hoya.
In August, Ortiz won a majority decision against Serhii Bohachuk (24-2, 23 KOs) and claimed the title of interim WBC champion.
Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) has not fought since September 2023, when he lost a unanimous decision to Saúl Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs). Errol Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) has not stepped into the ring since July of that same year, when he suffered the first defeat of his career against Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) by TKO in the ninth round.
