Oscar De La Hoya Slams Dana White’s Promotion: "Just Another Promoter with a Made-Up Belt"

Oscar De La Hoya, Dana White

Oscar De La Hoya, the head of Golden Boy Promotions, has reacted to the fight card for the Z01 tournament by Zuffa Boxing, led by Dana White. In the main event, scheduled for January 23 in the USA, Callum Walsh will face Carlos Ocampo.

“Dana White talked about how they were going to reinvent the wheel, take over boxing, fix the sport, and create their own rules, their own ring, and their own belt. It all turned out to be just smoke and mirrors.

Zuffa finally announced their first card, filled with names I’ve literally never heard of. Boxing is different. It’s not MMA, where stars can appear out of nowhere.

At the same time, in complete contradiction to his words, they are allowing Jai Opetaia to fight for all the other belts — to fulfill his dream of becoming undisputed champion. Remember, Dana said he had no intention of working with the four major sanctioning bodies, and now he’s changing his tune.

Dana almost never tells the truth. They are allowing Opetaia to compete under a co-promotion with someone else who actually knows boxing. This just makes them another promoter with made-up belts.

Good luck, Dana, in your continued attempt to control and monopolize boxing. Remember kids, you’re never a hater if you’re just stating facts,” De La Hoya said.

Previously, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman stated he was disappointed by the aggressive policy chosen by Zuffa. He declared that traditional organizations would always remain the "major league," while White's promotion would fail to reach such heights.
