Oscar De La Hoya, founder and head of Golden Boy Promotions, representing interim WBC super welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz (22-0, 21 KOs), has confirmed that his client will return to the ring on February 22.
The promoter also revealed that Ortiz’s next opponent will be one of three candidates: WBC and WBO champion Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs), WBA titleholder Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), or IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs), should Ennis decide to move up in weight.
"It’s one of these three. Someone from this trio," De La Hoya said in an interview with DAZN.
Ortiz also shared his thoughts on his potential opponent, expressing a preference for Fundora as his first choice.
"My number one choice? I’d say Sebastian Fundora. I’m already an interim champion, and I think this fight can be easily arranged.
Second, I’d pick Jaron Ennis. He could move up in weight. And Terence Crawford – that’s a fight I’ve always wanted. Without a doubt, he’s number one or two in the P4P rankings today. He’s a great fighter, and I want to test myself against the best to prove my greatness," Ortiz stated.
In 2024, Ortiz had an active year, securing victories against Fredrick Lawson, Thomas Dulorme, and Serhii Bohachuk.
