Oscar De La Hoya Assesses William Zepeda’s Chances Against Shakur Stevenson

Golden Boy Promotions founder and CEO Oscar De La Hoya shared his thoughts on a potential matchup between his fighter, Mexican boxer William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs), and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) from the United States.

– If William Zepeda defeats Tevin Farmer, can we expect a fight with Shakur Stevenson in the first quarter of next year?

– Absolutely, it all depends on logistics. I mean, we want this fight. Zepeda wants this fight. It’s all in the details, that’s it.

I’m firmly convinced Shakur is an incredible fighter and an excellent boxer. You’re only as good as your last fight. I hope his hand heals (after surgery). I wish him a speedy recovery because I want him to be 100% ready when he faces William Zepeda.

The fight against Tevin Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs), set for November 16, will be William Zepeda’s third bout in 2024. Earlier this year, the Mexican fighter scored stoppage wins over Maxi Hughes (27-7-2, 6 KOs) in March and Giovanni Cabrera (22-2, 7 KOs) in July.

In July, Shakur Stevenson defeated Artem Harutyunyan (12-2, 7 KOs) by unanimous decision, defending his title. Stevenson was scheduled to return to the ring on October 12 against Joe Cordina (17-1, 9 KOs), but the fight was canceled due to Stevenson’s injury. The American champion is expected to return in early 2025.
