Oscar De La Hoya, promoter and founder of Golden Boy Promotions, commented on the situation involving his client, the junior welterweight (up to 63.5 kg) fighter Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs).
On May 2, it was revealed that Ryan Garcia failed drug tests taken prior to his bout against the WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs). The fight took place in the early hours of April 21, with Garcia defeating Haney. Despite the defeat, Devin remains the WBC champion since Ryan failed to meet the weight limit and was not contesting for the title.
"Two positive tests? Who has two positive tests? We will get all the information from the commission, and then, of course, we'll make a statement. But right now, we need to get the results of Sample B.
That's what I'm waiting for. But there’s no room for fraud here, and I firmly believe that Ryan didn't cheat," said Oscar.
