Ortiz Says Crawford Will Retire After Two More Fights

WBC interim super welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs) has revealed that WBA titleholder Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) told him he intends to fight two more times before retiring from boxing.

“He’s not coming back to 154 pounds (69.85 kg). I spoke to him — and this is the first time I’m sharing it — I spoke to him, and he’s not planning to return. He’s going to have two more fights and then retire.

And you know what? I respect that. He was undisputed at 140 (63.5 kg) and 147 (66.7 kg). Make your money and walk away.

What’s left to prove? I’d do the same thing, so I don’t blame him,” said Ortiz.

Crawford’s next likely opponent is Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, the reigning WBA, WBC, and WBO champion at super middleweight. A potential showdown between them is being targeted for September 2025.
