Ortis: “We Offered a Fight to Jermell Charlo, but He Refused”

Interim WBC Junior Middleweight champion Virgil Ortiz revealed that his team made a fight offer to former undisputed champion Jermell Charlo, but the offer was declined.

“We offered him a fight, but he refused. He turned it down, it was very recent, it was supposed to happen at an event in Texas.

I don’t want to state his reasons, whether they’re true or not, but there was a certain reason given. I think it’s just an excuse, but yeah, he refused. We already tried to make that fight happen.

Will we return to negotiations in the future? Oh, absolutely, I’d love to fight him,” said Ortiz.

On November 8, Virgil Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs) will meet Erickson Lubin in the ring.

Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) last fought in September 2023 against Canelo Alvarez and lost by unanimous decision.
