Opponents for Paro: Hearn Lists Options

On the night of June 16, Australian Liam Paro (25-0, 15 KOs) pulled off a stunning victory against Puerto Rican knockout artist Subriel Matias (20-2, 20 KOs), becoming the IBF super lightweight champion (up to 63.5 kg). In light of this surprising result, the search for an opponent for the newly crowned Australian champion has intensified.

Mandatory challenger for the IBF title is Richardson Hitchins (18-0, 7 KOs), but Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has entered the scene with other possibilities.

Initially, Hearn mentioned organizing a unification fight for the WBC and IBF titles between Liam and Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) in Australia. Later, he outlined potential opponents for the Australian champion.

"There's Ryan Garcia, Pitbull Cruz, Teofimo Lopez, and Richardson Hitchins, who will soon be knocking on the door for a mandatory defense. This is just an incredible night for Australian boxing and Liam Paro – a huge underdog. He came and won in an incredible performance," said Hearn.

Isaac Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs) is the WBA super lightweight champion, while Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KOs) holds the WBO title. Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs), after defeating Devin Haney and failing a doping test for the banned substance Ostarine, is awaiting further decisions regarding a potential disqualification.
