Former cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia (24-0, 19 KOs) has denied rumors that he knocked out WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) during a sparring session.
"It's all nonsense. It's annoying that journalists spread absolute falsehoods instead of creating something positive. Two top fighters in two different divisions helping each other to advance. That's good for boxing, but they want to criticize us and pit us against each other. That's stupid. I saw people in interviews saying, 'This happened, that happened.' But they don't know anything. It's complete crap. Anyone who says this or that happened is actually lying. You know what I mean? If you weren't really there, you don't know anything. It seems like a lesson for everyone. Rumors spread very quickly. This should be a lesson to all," said Jai.
Jai Opetaia and Tyson Fury will be boxing as part of the same show on May 18. The Australian will challenge Mairis Briedis (28-2, 20 KOs) for the IBF cruiserweight title, while the Brit will face the holder of the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO titles, Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs), for the title of absolute world champion in the heavyweight division.
