Oleksandr Usyk Suffers Injury, Team Requests Extension from WBO

Frank Warren, founder and head of Queensberry Promotions, has revealed that undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has sustained an injury.

As a result, the Ukrainian’s team has contacted the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to request an extension of the negotiation period for a fight against interim WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker.

On July 19, Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) defeated Daniel Dubois by fifth-round knockout in their rematch to become the undisputed heavyweight champion for the third time in his career.

On July 24, the WBO sanctioned a bout between Usyk and Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs). WBO President Gustavo Olivieri stated that Usyk must make a mandatory title defense.
