On March 29th at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, USA, a fight for the WBO "interim" super featherweight title (up to 58.96 kg) took place between Mexican Oscar Valdez (32-2, 24 KOs) and Australian Liam Wilson (13-3, 7 KOs). The fight concluded with Valdez securing a victory via technical knockout in the 7th round.
WBC champion in the same division, O'Shaquie Foster (22-2, 12 KOs), congratulated the Mexican on his victory and hinted at a possible matchup.
"Great win. Congratulations, champ. See you soon," Foster tweeted.
Valdez is the WBO "interim" champion, while Emanuel Navarrete (38-1-1, 31 KOs) holds the full title. Should Navarrete officially move up to lightweight (up to 61.2 kg), his current WBO super featherweight belt will be declared vacant.
Afterward, Valdez will either have to fight a designated contender for the full belt or he could be appointed as the full champion – all depending on the WBO's decision. In the latter case, a potential fight against O'Shaquie Foster would become a unification match. Interestingly, both Oscar and O'Shaquie are fighters under Top Rank.
