Nontshinga and Gonzalez Set for Unification Clash

IBF and WBO light flyweight (up to 48.98 kg) champions Sivenathi Nontshinga (13-1, 10 KOs) and Jonathan Gonzalez (28-3-1, 14 KOs) are planning a unification bout. According to BoxingScene, the showdown is scheduled for June 15 in Puerto Rico.

In 2023, the 25-year-old Nontshinga first defeated the previously unbeaten Reggie Suganob, then unexpectedly lost to Adrian Curiel by knockout in the 2nd round. Curiel was a complete underdog but caught Nontshinga early in the match with a punch, taking his belt. In February 2024, Nontshinga avenged his loss – knocking out Curiel in the 10th round.

The 32-year-old Gonzalez won his championship belt in 2021 by defeating Elwin Soto. Since then, he has defended his title three times with decision victories.
