Nery: "If Tyson Lost in Japan, Inoue Can Too"

Mexican super bantamweight (up to 55,2 kg) Luis Nery (35-1, 27 KOs) assessed his chances in the fight against the undisputed world champion Naoya Inoue (26-0, 23 KOs).

"This is the highest stage a boxer can reach. Like football players who prepare all their lives for the World Cup. It’s the same thing. It’s more than being a world champion. It’s about four belts. It's the title of the undisputed champion.

I've wanted to fight him for about three years. Fortunately, the opportunity has arisen, and we are taking it seriously. He’s one of the best fighters. He's fast. He’s strong. But he has weaknesses, and he takes punches.

I'm the only one who can defeat Inoue because I have powerful punches, can take punches, have heart, and I'm ready to die in the ring. I'm a fighter who, above all, likes to brawl. I love to create chaos in the ring. But I also like to counter. If the fight allows it, and if the fighter and style allow it, then I do it. I adapt to any style to win.

I think Inoue shouldn't have agreed to this fight. If I were him, I would have declined. He has something to lose, and I don’t. I’m not at the top like he is. I'm going all-in. I'm going to take risks and am ready to die in the ring.

This is an important fight. It deserves to happen in such an arena (Tokyo Dome). And I think it's a sign. If Mike Tyson can end his undefeated streak there, so can Naoya Inoue. I will win by knockout. There’s no other way," said Nery.

The fight between Luis Nery and Naoya Inoue will take place on May 6 in Tokyo, Japan.

On February 11, 1990, Mike Tyson suffered his first career defeat in Japan at the Tokyo Dome. American Buster Douglas knocked out Iron Mike in the tenth round. This fight is considered one of the biggest upsets in sports.
