Former WBO super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete has spoken out following his defeat in a lightweight title bout against Denys Berinchyk, offering insight into what went wrong — and whether he plans to continue at 135 lbs.
“The move up depends on a few things — we need to understand whether we’ll stay at lightweight and pursue another shot at a world title. A fight with Keyshawn Davis would obviously be the easiest to make because of the way the WBO rules work — champion vs. champion. But it all depends on whether we can face Keyshawn after the next fight or maybe later this year.
It was only my first fight in this division. Maybe we didn’t prepare as well as we should have. Maybe some things weren’t done right. I just think we need to adjust a few things in camp, and then lightweight won’t be a problem,” said Navarrete.
Navarrete’s next fight takes place on May 10 in the USA. Full fight stats and breakdown from RTFight available via the link.
