On July 20th in Tokyo, Japan, a tournament took place, with the main event featuring WBC flyweight champion (up to 53.5 kg) Junto Nakatani (28-0, 21 KOs) against Vincent Astrolabio (19-5, 14 KOs).
The fight ended in the 1st round with Nakatani's victory – after a powerful body shot, Astrolabio dropped to his knees and couldn't continue. KO 1 at 2 minutes and 37 seconds.
In July, Nakatani won by technical knockout in the 6th round against Alejandro Santiago (28-4-5, 14 KOs). Astrolabio won by technical knockout in the 11th round against Nawaphon Kaikanha (60-4-1, 50 KOs) in August 2023.
What's Next?
After the fight, Junto declared his readiness to fight Takuma Inoue – the brother of Naoya Inoue, who is the WBA champion in a lighter category. Notably, the other two champions in the division are also Japanese: Ryosuke Ishida (IBF) and Yoshiki Takei (WBO).
Junto also hinted at a possible future fight against Naoya Inoue, which would require him to move up to the next weight category.
