Munguia: "This Loss Hurts Me"

On the night of May 5th, a tournament was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA. The main event of the evening was a fight between Mexican undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs), who defended his title against his fellow countryman Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs).

The fight lasted all twelve rounds and ended with a confident victory for the reigning undisputed champion via unanimous decision. In the fourth round, Jaime experienced the first knockdown of his career.

Alvarez commented on his victory and stated that his opponent has a bright future: "I'm very proud that all Mexicans are here watching us. Munguia is a great fighter. He's strong, he's smart. But he's a little slow, so I could see every one of his punches. Sometimes he caught me, but that's because I was acting too confidently. Right now, there's no doubt that I'm the best fighter.

This victory means a lot to me. Munguia is a great guy and a great champion. He will have a great career."

Munguia didn't hide his disappointment over the first loss of his career: "I was strong and won the early rounds. I let my hands go, but I was facing a fighter with a lot of experience. This loss hurts me because it's my first. No doubt, I could have beaten anyone tonight, but I was up against a guy who can create a lot of problems."
