Munguia: "My Fight with Canelo Wasn't Handed to Me"

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) discussed the upcoming fight against the undisputed super middleweight champion Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).

"This fight will both divide and unite Mexico. Everyone will be watching this fight. I respect and admire Canelo. We're going to have a great fight. Don't think that this fight was handed to me. That's not the case. It was earned with respect and hard work. That's what was lacking for the other contenders. Canelo has always been a source of pride and motivation for me. I used to say when I started my career that I dreamed of becoming like him. And now I have the opportunity to face him in the ring. I hope that soon I will be where he is. There is mutual respect between us. We want to make not only Mexico proud. We want to be an example for the whole world. With all due respect, in the ring, I will be pressuring and pushing him. I promise to give it my all," Munguia declared.

The fight between Canelo Álvarez and Jaime Munguia is set for May 4th in Las Vegas, USA.
