Former world champion Mikey Garcia has shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between Devin Haney and Jose Carlos Ramirez, set to take place on May 2 in Times Square, New York. According to Garcia, Ramirez is not the best opponent for Haney at this stage of his career.
"I think Haney will be cautious. He won’t trade punches. He’ll try to go the distance and box from the outside. But all it takes is one punch to bring back those memories — and Jose has that punch. He has power, and he has size. Haney can box, but after the kind of beating he took, it’s not easy to come back.
We’ve seen this happen to many fighters, and I think that’s something Ramirez can use. I think Haney should’ve picked someone else. Someone who doesn’t hit hard, someone who doesn’t have that power. Someone already at the tail end of their career, with two or three losses in their last four fights. Someone who doesn’t pose a threat. I think they picked the wrong fight." said Garcia.
