Mike Tyson, the ex-undisputed heavyweight champion, declared that David Benavides, the former two-time world champion in the super middleweight division, is his favorite current boxer.
"It’s just the consistency of punches and the aggressiveness. And there’s been no one that’s able to even hurt him yet. He’s my favorite fighter because everyone appears to be afraid of him. I don’t know if they are, but no-one’s fighting him," Boxing Social quotes Tyson as saying.
It should be noted that in his previous bout, Benavides engaged in a grueling battle with Caleb Plant, resulting in a bloody affair. The judges ultimately favored Benavides with scores of 115-113, 116-112, and 117-111, thus granting him the interim WBC belt, which is currently held by Saul Alvarez.
Having competed in a total of 27 professional matches, the American fighter emerged victorious in 23 of them, each victory secured by way of knockout. Following his clash with Plant, Benavides immediately challenged Alvarez and is hopeful for a September showdown, stating, "I don't think he's trying to avoid me, it's just that he has a lot of options, but now the fans will be calling him for our fight."
