Mike McCallum Passes Away at 68

Former world champion Mike McCallum has passed away at the age of 68 in Las Vegas. According to reports, McCallum began feeling unwell en route to the gym. His legacy will be honored in Canastota during Hall of Fame week.

Known as “The Body Snatcher,” McCallum was Jamaica’s first world boxing champion, capturing titles in light middleweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight divisions. He compiled an outstanding career record of 49 wins (36 by KO), 5 losses, and 1 draw, and was never stopped in the ring.

McCallum competed at the 1976 Olympics and won gold at the Commonwealth Games. In 2003, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Among his notable victories are wins over Donald Curry, Julian Jackson, Herol Graham, and Steve Collins.

The boxing world mourns the loss of one of the sport’s most skilled technicians and pioneers.
