Former world champion Michael Moorer has responded to the passing of George Foreman, the two-time heavyweight world champion who famously defeated him to become the oldest heavyweight champion in history.
"This is a sad day for everyone in boxing because such a monumental figure has left this earth. It’s a very sad day for fighters.
Everyone remembers our fight—it was epic. It was the great George Foreman versus Michael Moorer. George was losing that fight, everybody saw it. But he showed his determination, his perseverance, and he succeeded. He won and became the oldest heavyweight champion in history.
Apparently, he'll be remembered most for that second chapter of his career—because he beat me. His career was divided into two parts. I didn’t follow the first half, but I was part of the second. That’s probably what people will recall the most.
We lost a great fighter and a great man.
When he spoke, he had class. He carried himself with manners. That’s someone you look up to, out of respect.
And yes—he hit like the devil."
George Foreman passed away on March 22 at the age of 76.
