Mayweather on Pacquiao Rematch: "He Shouldn't Have Said That"

In an interview with The Pivot Podcast on YouTube, former champion in five weight categories Floyd Mayweather responded to Manny Pacquiao's announcement of their rematch.

"Pacquiao shouldn't have said that. But he did. Everything has its time and place. I won't say he told the truth, and I won't say he was wrong. I don't need to say anything. Because every time someone mentions my name, I immediately get an automatic check for 4 million. I don't like to 'throw people under the bus'. That's not how we do things.

But he did it. He mentioned my name, though he shouldn't have. I'm not just talking about the fact that everything has its time and place for no reason. Go ask him now. Every time things weren't going well for him, he would say, 'Floyd, you're always using my name.' But in reality, he only became popular because people expected him to be able to dethrone me. Did that happen? Of course not. Was the victory easy? Absolutely!" said Mayweather.

The fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao took place in May 2015 and ended with an American victory by unanimous decision. This fight did not live up to its massive hype, and Pacquiao blamed a shoulder injury for his subpar performance. For this fight, Mayweather earned over 200 million dollars, while Pacquiao earned over 100 million.
