Former American champion in five weight categories, Floyd Mayweather, shared what David Benavidez needs to do to secure a fight against the current undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs),
"If David Benavidez continues to defeat fighter after fighter and champion after champion, eventually he will become significant. And then everyone will want to fight him.
Just like me, you have to wait your turn. David Benavidez is an incredible fighter. All David needs to do is to keep going out there and beating guys, staying focused, and then he will become a sought-after fighter," Floyd said.
Benavidez is one of the most desired opponents for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez according to fans. Last year, David defeated Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade. He won against the former by decision and the latter by knockout. It was later announced that Benavidez would be the official contender for Canelo Alvarez's WBC title at super middleweight and would box against Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the WBC interim light heavyweight title (up to 79.4 kg).
