Subriel Matías to Defend Title Against Dalton Smith

In the early hours of 13 July, Puerto Rican puncher Subriel Matías (23-2, 22 KOs) out-pointed Dominican fighter Alberto Puello (24-1, 10 KOs) to capture the WBC Super-Lightweight crown (63.5 kg).

Moments after the win, Matías took part in a staredown with Britain’s unbeaten WBC Silver champion Dalton Smith (18-0, 13 KOs).

The 33-year-old Matías will make his first defence on 22 November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the undercard of “The Ring IV,” headlined by David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde.

According to The Ring insider Mike Coppinger, the winner of Matías vs Smith will then meet Alberto Puello.

Reminder: In New York on 13 July, Matías edged Puello by majority decision—scores: 114-114 and two cards of 115-113 for the Puerto Rican.
