In an interview with Boxing Scene, IBF super lightweight world champion Subriel Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) commented on the upcoming bout between WBC titleholder Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).
"Haney's always running. That's all he does; he never comes to fight. He poses a threat to me only if he doesn’t fight me. He looks like someone who doesn’t like to fight.
His next fight? All I can say is that people who talk less understand far more than those who talk a lot. I think it's going to be a one-sided fight, to be honest.
Ryan Garcia lacks the spirit for it. What I can tell you is that with Ryan's abilities, if he had my mentality and the heart that God gave me, no one on this planet could beat him. No one would beat Garcia if he had what I have. Nobody could ever beat him if he had a better mindset.
He could be outstanding, but he doesn’t believe in himself," Matias stated.
The bout between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia is set to take place on April 20th in New York, USA. Subriel Matias last entered the ring in November of the previous year against Shohjahon Ergashev (23-1, 20 KOs), who withdrew from the fight after 5 rounds due to an injury. The most likely next opponent for Matias is mentioned to be Dominican Elvis Rodriguez (15-1-1, 13 KOs).
