“Prelude to Joshua.” Matchroom to Stage Boxing Event in Ghana

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn has announced a boxing event scheduled for December 20 in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Hearn added that the event is expected to serve as an important foundation for a potential fight in the city featuring former Heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua in February.

“We’re going to stage a show in Ghana on December 20. Obviously, it won’t be a Joshua show, but it will still be an exciting one.

The idea is that this will likely be a prelude to an AJ event there, although that’s not part of our original agreement. We’ll get a feel for things through this show.

Frank Smith visited the location and was blown away. The agreement is in place with the same people.

We’re now working on which fighters will be on the card. There will be several boxers of Ghanaian origin, as well as our own athletes. Then we plan to return there with AJ in February,” Hearn said.

Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) last fought in September 2024, when he was knocked out in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois.
