Matchroom Founder: "The Heavyweight Division Is a Real Soap Opera"

Matchroom Boxing founder Barry Hearn shared his thoughts on the intrigue unfolding in the heavyweight division (over 90.7 kg).

"We have an interesting situation—a real soap opera in the heavyweight division. Every stage brings its own heroes and storyline. Tyson Fury, whether you love him or not, is a great fighter with immense charisma. Then there's Oleksandr Usyk, fighting for his country, and now Daniel Dubois steps onto the scene.

Dubois is set to face Parker. Parker is a highly underrated fighter. He's genuinely good, and on his day, he could give Dubois a proper beating. But the question is, can Dubois land on Parker? And if he lands as hard as he did against Joshua, no opponent will withstand it.

Then we have someone like Anthony Joshua, staying in the shadows, saying, 'I’ll make a decision about my career.' This is a pivotal moment in his life. He’s earned incredible money, but he’s nearing 36 years old.

It’s a tough loss to swallow. As a true warrior, he’ll want revenge, but he also won’t want to retire without sharing the ring with Tyson Fury—we’ve been talking about this for 10 years," Hearn Sr. remarked.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to meet on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Daniel Dubois’s next fight is scheduled for February 22. Anthony Joshua may return in 2025, with two potential matchups on the horizon.
