Matchroom CEO Considers Usyk the Best in the World

CEO of Matchroom Boxing, Frank Smith, believes that Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) can be considered the best boxer in the world after his victory over Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).

«I believe the decision was correct, and Usyk deserved the win. I think after the 7th round, Fury was leading 5-2, but then Oleksandr completely changed the course of the fight. That’s what he does every time.

He always finds a way to win, which is why he is where he is now. That’s why he became undisputed in cruiserweight and heavyweight – because he always finds a way.

Both boxers deserve compliments because they provided a great night for the sport. It's the kind of fight, with the scales constantly tipping back and forth, that gets people excited about boxing.

Fury is an interesting character both in and out of the ring; he loves to play to the crowd. It's an integral part of his style. But when you face such a classy opponent like Usyk, it doesn’t always work.

As I said, I think Tyson was significantly ahead after a little more than half of the fight. But Oleksandr showed why he is where he is now. I think he should occupy the number one position in the P4P rankings, as he has shown that skills are significantly more important than size differences,» said Smith.

After defeating Tyson Fury, Usyk became a two-time undisputed world champion.
