Expert Names the Condition Under Which Lara Can Beat Alimkhanuly

Former world champion and current boxing analyst Paul Malignaggi shared his thoughts on the upcoming middleweight unification fight between WBO and IBF titleholder Janibek Alimkhanuly and WBA champion Erislandy Lara.

“Both guys have a high level of experience — this could turn into a real chess match. The edge is on Janibek’s side because of his age and physical dimensions. But if he delivers another flat performance, Lara is exactly the kind of fighter who can beat him. Lara never truly loses — he always keeps the fight close,” Malignaggi said.

The Alimkhanuly vs. Lara fight will take place on December 6 in San Antonio, Texas, USA. The event will be broadcast on Amazon Prime via PPV.

In April, Janibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs) scored a fifth-round technical knockout over Anauel Ngamissengue.

Erislandy Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) last fought in September 2024, stopping Danny Garcia when Garcia’s corner declined to continue after the ninth round.
