In a comment for Tha Boxing Voice, expert Paul Malignaggi shared his thoughts on the bout between WBC heavyweight (over 90,7 kg) champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and the holder of the WBO, WBA, IBO, and IBF titles, Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs).
"Fury was my initial pick. I think he's just too big, and he will utilize his pressure tactics. It seems to me Usyk is the most complete fighter in the division. But in heavyweight, size definitely matters. And this is really a situation where, I think, Fury is too big of a heavyweight, and he could cause problems for the more skilled Usyk.
Fury will enter the ring to prove who he is. He's the kind of person that when he needs to prove something, he shows a killer, in a good sense for him, performance. I also think the training made him lighter because he probably was really preparing for a fight. Not like with Ngannou, whom he didn't take seriously. There he looked bad. Probably, he takes the fight against Usyk very seriously, and in the ring, I expect the best Tyson Fury.
People forget about Usyk. Suddenly, everyone started demanding a Fury vs. Joshua fight. Usyk has two wins over Anthony Joshua, we can't forget that. And I still believe Usyk is the most skilled heavyweight in the world. He's just not big enough for the heavyweight division to dominate completely. This is my opinion, but we'll see on May 18th. Maybe I'm wrong," said Malignaggi.
The fight for the title of undisputed heavyweight world champion between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled for May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
