In a comment for Tha Boxing Voice, expert Paulie Malignaggi stated that WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) and WBC super lightweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) are the best in their respective weight classes.
"Nobody's beating Shakur Stevenson at lightweight. Devin is the best super lightweight fighter in the world, and Shakur is the best lightweight in the world.
Tank (Gervonta Davis) did to Haney what Devin did to Shakur – a purse split of 75/25. Essentially, the same thing. 'Send me two Ferraris.' Really, bro? That means you don't want to fight.
It seems to me when Devin was offering Shakur the 75/25 split, he really didn't want to fight. Haney doesn't bring in the numbers like Canelo. Canelo's numbers are on another level. Haney doesn't sell that much. That's why his fight against Regis Prograis was made.
You don't want to do it, that's fine. Devin is negotiating from a position of strength. Can Devin pull the same numbers as Canelo and Anthony Joshua? You need opponents. That means you have to make fights like against Stevenson," Malignaggi said.
Shakur Stevenson last entered the ring in November against Robson Conceicao (16-2, 14 KOs) and won by unanimous decision. In this fight, he claimed his title.
Last December, Devin Haney won by unanimous decision against Regis Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs). His next fight is scheduled for April 20 against Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).
