Malignaggi: "Benavides Shines in Super Middleweight. Where's the Canelo Fight?"

In an interview with ProBox TV, former two-weight world champion and boxing analyst Paul Malignaggi criticized the undisputed super middleweight (up to 76,2 kg) champion Saul Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).

"When some guy off the street somehow becomes the mandatory challenger, Canelo fights him and says, 'Hey, this was a mandatory challenger, we had to fight him,' and his fans jump on you too.

I've had discussions with Canelo fans where they say, 'Avni Yildirim was the mandatory challenger, he had to fight him.' Fine, but when Jermall Charlo was lighting up the middleweight division, he was also Canelo's mandatory, but we never saw that fight.

Now, Benavides is shining in the super middleweight division, he's also the mandatory challenger for Alvarez, and where is that fight? It's nowhere. I have no problem with Canelo doing what he wants. My problem is with him doing whatever he pleases with the belts," said Malignaggi.

Canelo Alvarez's next fight is scheduled for May 4 against fellow countryman Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) in Las Vegas, USA.
