"He's a True Champion": Loma and Kambosos on the Fight's Outcome

On May 12th in Perth, Australia, a fight for the IBF and IBO lightweight titles (up to 61.2 kg) took place between Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) and George Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs). Lomachenko won by TKO in the 11th round. Vasiliy dedicated his victory to several important figures.

"First, I want to thank our God Jesus Christ. I'm very grateful. Secondly, I want to pay my respects to my opponent George, his team. They are a strong team. And also, a big thank you to my team, my father, my coach, Anatoly, Egis, Russ, my family, children, friends. Yes, of course, I want to say thank you very much to all the people for supporting boxing. Thank you, and may God bless you. Today I am once again a world champion. This title and fight are for my father. I want to tell him that I am very grateful and appreciate him. He trained me, prepared me, and he deserves this – this belt is for my father. I want to go home and spend time with my family," said Lomachenko.

Kambosos acknowledged – his opponent was better.

"I'm a tough Australian boxer. I'm more than Arturo Gatti, Mickey Ward. I don't want easy fights; I need the best. What can you say about this man – Lomachenko is one of the best in history, an outstanding amateur. I tried to give my best performance, started very well, stuck to the fight plan. I tried, but he's a true champion, deserved this belt. I wish him all the best. And I will take care of my business – do all I can. I'll show the best of myself, that's the kind of boxer I am. I'll say one thing – I did everything in camp. I give credit to my team, coach Anton, my father. We tried to show the best boxing. I'm very grateful, we'll see what happens next," said Kambosos.
