Lerena Shares Insights on Opetaia-Fury Sparring Session

South African Kevin Lerena (30-2, 14 KOs), a sparring partner of WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs), commented on rumors that heavyweight boxer Jai Opetaia (24-0, 19 KOs) knocked out the Brit during a sparring session.

"I'll be honest with you: I don't talk about fighters or what happens in sparrings. There's a certain etiquette and code. I can only say one thing: no, Jai Opetaia did not knock out Tyson Fury. Definitely not. But of course, I don't discuss sparrings. When other fighters spar, you have to respect them and not talk about what happened in the ring. But to answer your question – no, Opetaia did not knock out Fury," said Lerena.

Jai Opetaia only completed 5 rounds of sparring with Fury and left the camp. Officially, it was stated that the departure was due to a lack of suitable sparring partners in Tyson's camp for Opetaia's preparation for Briedis.
