WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach shared whether he believes a rematch with WBA lightweight titleholder Gervonta Davis is still realistic.
“I doubt it. As he himself has stated, he plans to retire — and I believe him. It’ll be difficult to fight Jake Paul first and then return to regular boxing against other opponents.
I think he really will retire because, first of all, he’s scared, and secondly, he doesn’t want to become a subject of mockery,” Roach said.
On March 1, the first fight between Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) ended in a majority draw. A rematch was planned, but Davis opted instead for an exhibition bout against Jake Paul, scheduled for November 14 in Miami, USA.
Meanwhile, Roach will return to the ring on December 6 in San Antonio, where he will face WBC interim super lightweight champion Isaac Cruz.
