According to Oleksandr Usyk's promoter, Alex Krassyuk, the Ukrainian fighter's primary objective is to acquire the WBC championship belt, currently owned by Tyson Fury and absent from Usyk's collection. However, this does not mean that Usyk requires Fury's participation to achieve his goal.
Krassyuk also revealed that an official announcement regarding the fight for the coveted title of absolute champion in the super heavyweight division is imminent. The representative of Usyk mentioned that the terms of the match should be finalized by both parties within the week.
"I know for 500 percent that Usyk wants this fight the most. He is not targeting Tyson Fury, but the WBC belt, which is missing from his collection.”
“If Tyson doesn't want to fight Usyk, why doesn't he vacate the title? Sometimes the WBC can give a champion special status. For example, Vitaliy Klitschko was an "honorary" WBC champion. Maybe Tyson Fury will become the WBC champion by rejection or something like that.”
“If he vacates the title, then we can fight for the title of absolute champion. Usyk strives to become an absolute champion. He doesn't need Fury personally. He doesn't chase Fury because he's famous, etc. Usyk wants to fight Tyson only because he is the WBC champion.”
“This week is the deadline. We should have already received the outline of the agreement. It will probably take us some time to familiarize ourselves with it and learn its contents.”
This week should definitely be a deadline for all of us. But the positive thing is that both fighters claim that they want this fight," Krassyuk commented to iFL TV.
As a reminder, the highly anticipated clash for the title of absolute champion in the super heavyweight division featuring Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled for April 29th at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.
