Alexander Krasyuk, the head of K2 Promotions and CBDO of RTFight, revealed that there was an intention to host Denys Berinchyk's (18-0, 9 KOs) fight against Emanuel Navarrete (38-1-1, 31 KOs) for the WBO lightweight title (61,2 kg) on the same card as the bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
- Was it realistic to hold the Berinchyk – Navarrete fight on the undercard of Usyk – Fury? Or, conversely, to schedule them on different dates so you could attend both matches?
- Of course, we tried. The Berinchyk fight was supposed to happen on May 18, and Usyk's on December 17. However, due to known circumstances, Usyk's fight was postponed. The only available date was May 18.
ESPN had already confirmed this date for Top Rank in San Diego. The arena had been booked. We proposed the Berinchyk – Navarrete fight for the undercard of Usyk – Fury, but didn't receive a clear response, so we went ahead with organizing a highly significant fight for Denys in San Diego.
Therefore, we indeed attempted both to spread them across dates and to combine them into one card. But now, we have what we have," Krassyuk said in an interview for the Tike Myson YouTube channel.
Usyk and Fury are set to meet on May 18 in Saudi Arabia. Berinchyk and Navarrete will clash on the night of May 18 to 19 in the USA.
