Alex Krassyuk, promoter of WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, has refuted any contact with the team of interim WBO heavyweight champion Zhang Zhilei.
"False. There hasn't been even a single hint," Krassyuk stated.
Previously, Zhilei mentioned his intention to fight Usyk and claimed that representatives of the Chinese boxer had already discussed the date and location of a potential bout with the Ukrainian's team.
It is worth noting that Zhilei defeated Joe Joyce by technical knockout in his last fight. In the 6th round, the referee had to stop the match due to a significant hematoma around Joe's right eye. The 39-year-old Zhilei became the interim WBO champion and now seeks a fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
Additionally, the WBA has mandated Usyk to defend his title against Daniel Dubois and set a 30-day deadline to agree on the fight details. The Ukrainian has stated that he plans to face the Briton towards the end of the summer.
