Alexander Krassyuk, promoter of the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titleholder Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and CBDO of Ready To Fight, commented on the conflict with the team of WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs).
– For a moment, I thought we were going to have a fight between Alexander Krassyuk and John Fury.
– No way. That fight would have ended in a knockout.
– From whom?
– I'm joking. I would never hit an older man. If he were my age, it might be different. But this is neither the time nor the place for aggression. The fight should happen in the ring. The rest of the teams should behave well and direct as much energy as possible towards their fighters.
– The world just witnessed absolute chaos. John is bleeding, one of your team members got a cut.
– I had to wipe my shirt from Fury's blood. A famous person told me: 'Why are you doing this? Better sell it online.' Too many strange things happened, and it's only Monday.
– What did you see? What's your version of events?
– I was with Usyk on Sky Sports. And then we heard the shouts 'Usyk! Fury!' After that, John appears. I see he's arguing with our security representative, but that's okay, it's normal, security knows how to behave. And then something happens, I hear 'uh-oh' and see John bleeding.
Everything almost got out of control, I rushed over and started saying, 'Guys, friends, calm down. I want to apologize on behalf of my guys.' I thought someone from our side had hit John. But then I saw the video and it was the other way around.
Turns out, should I take my apologies back now? What should I do? His behavior was inappropriate. I won't take my apologies back, but he should apologize himself. Such behavior doesn't create a good impression of us for the rest of the world. This is a classic in sports, a gem of martial arts. People should know that boxing is a sport for intelligent people.
Remember, John Fury headbutted Stanislav Stepchuk but ended up splitting his own forehead.
The fight for the undisputed heavyweight world championship between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled for May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
