Egis Klimas Weighs in on Kovalev vs. Mchunu's Pivotal Contender Faceoff

Egis Klimas, manager of former world light heavyweight champion Sergei Kovalev, reacted to the WBC's decision to schedule a cruiserweight contender's bout between his fighter and Tabiso Mchunu.

“This is a very big opportunity for Sergey. He has a chance to become world champion again. Only now, in cruiserweight. He may also get a chance to win the WBC championship belt, which he’s never had before. Kovalev had a good career as a light heavyweight. Now we will try to get him the championship title in the cruiserweight division. We’re really happy that Kovalev is fighting again,” said the specialist.

At the moment, there is no exact date for the fight between Kovalev and Mchunu. All that’s known for sure is that an agreement must be reached by February 24th, otherwise the WBC will hold a bidding event.
