In an interview with vRINGe, WBC Ukraine President Nikolai Kovalchuk discussed the World Boxing Council's (WBC) special treatment towards Ukrainian boxing.
"Ukrainian fighters are very talented. If that were not the case, WBC would never have opened its office in Ukraine. They consider Ukraine one of the top-5 boxing countries in the world. And Ukraine holds a very important place in the organization. A special place. And they have a special attitude towards us. No exaggeration."
Kovalchuk also spoke about his duties in his role:
"To provide our fighters with the opportunity to box for titles, to enter the rankings, to move along the WBC line, to initially contend for interim titles, and then for world champion titles. The task is to do everything to protect their positions in the rankings. As much as possible, that's what I focus on. Arguably, this isn't even part of my duties. After all, this is the work of promoters. But everyone understands that promoters are having a tough time right now," Nikolai Kovalchuk said.
Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko is the only boxer in history to be the "eternal" world champion according to the WBC.
