Klimas on What Drives Lomachenko: “It’s Not Money. It’s Not Legacy.”

Egis Klimas, manager of IBF and IBO lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, has shared insight into what might still motivate the Ukrainian legend to return to the ring.

Can Lomachenko retire without ever fighting Gervonta Davis?

Lomachenko can do whatever he wants. He can retire. He can fight. Either way, he will always be Lomachenko.

Is there anything that still motivates him?

Definitely not money.

Wasn’t his biggest motivation to become undisputed?

He already has a legacy. He’s proven who he is. If he’s thinking about his children, his family, or something along those lines—maybe that could motivate him. But it’s certainly not about money or legacy anymore, - said Klimas.

Lomachenko last fought in spring 2024, when he stopped George Kambosos to claim the IBF and IBO lightweight titles. He has since been recovering from a back injury.

Now 37 years old, Lomachenko’s next move remains uncertain—but whatever he chooses, his place in boxing history is secure.
