Boxing Scene journalist Lance Pugmire has reported that Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KOs), the newly crowned WBO lightweight champion, is expected to make his first title defense on June 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
According to Pugmire, Davis is being lined up to face Edwin De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) of the Dominican Republic—the same fighter who previously faced Shakur Stevenson in a lackluster title bout.
However, fellow insider Dan Rafael poured cold water on the report, saying talks are still at an early stage:
“There’s no deal—not even close. Just one phone call between the camps so far. That’s it.”
Davis captured the WBO title on February 14, stopping Denys Berinchyk with a brutal fourth-round knockout in a breakout performance.
While the matchup is far from confirmed, fans may be treated to a compelling clash of styles if it comes together at MSG this summer.
